Noire Eiry

Knowledge without shape is power without direction.

"... His posture was definitely not one of good health, his presence not one to command the room. And yet, whenever I looked into those clouded eyes, they stared back into mine. Unblinking, unwavering... as if daring me to underestimate him."

Noire's raven hair covers the majority of his face, disheveled and unkempt. Not that he needs to see -- it's obvious that the Xaela's eyes fail him the majority of the time. The air around him is saturated with aether, just enough to not be of harm to most. This is what allows him to "see" despite his failing vision. The majority of Noire's body is also atrophied, and as a result it is difficult for him to walk for more than a few minutes. His moth-fae, Aisling, usually accompanies him to mitigate the pain. The magick does not, however, alleviate his exhaustion, and he must rest often to ensure his legs do not completely give out on him.Usually smelling like an afternoon coffee, it is not unusual to see Noire's hunched body dressed head to toe in his alchemist's coat. He would usually be found near a library or research study, always wanting to learn a new facet to the world of Aetherology.Full Character Sheet.

Orphan of a Shipwreck, turned fabled Tactician of the Confederacy.

Noire never had an easy life. Orphaned by the shipwreck of The Eiry at a young age, the Xaela found himself on unfamiliar sands with no memories to call his own. The ship had marooned off of the coast of Saibai's Cavern, helmed by a foolhardy Captain who had thought himself able to cross Confederate territory without paying The Ruby Tithe. As killing individuals with less than a dozen namedays left even pirates a bad taste in their mouth, Noire was instead spared death and sworn into The Confederacy as a child to repay his lifedebt. However, Noire never was able to properly develop muscle. Saphrum, a fellow survivor of the shipwreck, had already assimilated with her peers. Noire's frail build did not do much to make this an easy endeavor. He simply lacked the endurance one would expect of someone his age, and this made him a prime target for bullying in a society built around piracy. Noire began to sneak out at night and befriend the Kojin of the Blue, who took a liking to the young Au Ra. His natural inquisitiveness to the inner workings of the world prompted the Kojin to beseech The Ruby Princess and allow him passage to Sui-no-Sato so he might have a proper education. After much deliberation with her council, she agreed.Noire's mind became his greatest asset. Fascinated by his development, sorcerers nourished him with knowledge of arts and theory both well-documented and forgotten. His mind seemed to only grow further when tested. Before he knew it, Noire found himself peers with the very same individuals he had learned from. His mind became infamous across The Ruby Sea -- whispers of his brilliance in the management of The Confederacy reaching even the distant shores of Eorzea. Not long after arriving on the shores of Limsa Lominsa, Noire was officially recognized and accredited by Maelvaan's Gate -- a feat bestowed to only a few aetherologists of whom the Arcanist's Guild consider worthy.Nowadays, Noire is content to study in solitude in The Goblet. His library, The Looking Glass, is often sought after for Noire's consultation on matters aetherial. Alongside his wife, Munira, he has two adopted children: Lulumi and Emmy. Although he's still unfamiliar with the nuances of parenting, he is fiercely protective of them, and would do most anything for the sake of his family.

Y'naerith Abes

A Sharlayan dancer with a penchant for poisons and salves, Y'naerith, for all intents and purposes, inserted herself into the life of the Xaela when she started frequenting The Looking Glass. Helping out from time to time, Noire helped her learn more about her aether, setting the building blocks for ending a lifelong problem for the miqo'te, earning her respect and everlasting trust.A bright and bubbly young woman, Y'na finds joy in pushing Noire's buttons, finding out more about him with every push. It's all fair though, the Au Ra very likely to return the favors, and succeeding more often then she does.

Saphrum Bronwyn

The only other survivor of the shipwreck of The Eiry. The older of the two, Saphrum thinks of herself as Noire's older sister and would do anything to protect him from harm. This probably stems from guilt -- her father, Bron, was the Captain of The Eiry and as a result places all fault of Noire's memory loss on her shoulders.A quarter-Garlean, Saphrum finds it difficult to wield magic. However, her strength is unparalleled. She is also a deft craftsman, often making small presents for her friends using the driftwood that periodically washes onto Onokoro's shores.

Aylin Darros

Sometimes, meetings are determined by fate. Sometimes, they come in the form of a Xaela taking books off shelves and haphazardly throwing them to the floor below. Aylin Darros was the latter.Hailing from the Azim Steppe, an exiled Aylin returned to her homeland to aid Noire with discovering his heritage. With her brash personality and understanding of auri customs, the small Xaela was able to help Noire finally reunite with his mother.

Munira Eiry

Noire's childhood friend, wife, and closest confidant. Growing up together in Sui-no-Sato, there weren't many days where one would be seen without the other. After Munira's sudden departure from Sui-no-Sato, Noire poured himself into his studies so he could one day become strong enough to leave The Ruby Sea and reunite with her. After settling in Eorzea, Noire found her with her own established Free Company, Mirai Narrative, and aided her for a short time when needed. As Munira left for the coronation of her family's kingdom, Noire returned to The Ruby Sea.On a tranquil night, Noire went for a swim and returned home to the horrifying sight of a beaten, bruised, and exiled Munira on the shores of Onokoro. Her ra'en disguise shattered, Noire learned of Munira's true Veena heritage. Vowing to help her find her true biological mother, the two set out together to the war-torn territory of Dalmasca...

Istanya Runtela

A storyteller with more knowledge of ancient civilizations than Noire himself. A traveling troubadour, Istanya's longevity and personal accounts of historical events have made her indispensable to Noire's research on topics involving Nymian, Amdapori, and Mhachi civilizations.A skittish and demure individual, Istanya's love for writing meshes well with Noire's love for reading. Istanya is a regular at The Looking Glass, opting to show him stories whenever she musters the courage to drop by.

Baidar Vipre

The man from the skies above, perhaps by chance the Xaela found himself stumbling through the entrance of The Looking Glass by the recommendation of others. Little would the Sky Pirate come to realize it was only the beginning of a budding friendship of a Husband and Wife.Despite the two being near the same, Baidar looks up to Noire of someone with a wealth of knowledge. For the Sky Pirate, the Eiry name is one that the Xaela would stand beside no matter the cause. While Baidar does his best not to stick his nose in business, he does hold a worry for Noire in the most recent days having been given awareness of his aliments.
